Cannabis Events in Canada

By The Plantlife Education Team

Not long ago you could not legally smoke a joint in a Calgary park, let alone buy one at a concert. Alberta changed that faster than almost anyone expected. In the summer of 2024 Plantlife became the first cannabis retailer in the province to sell at a live festival, and a year later the first in Canada to sell at an all-ages one. We have been showing up ever since. This is the story of where Plantlife sets up shop outside of the shop, from Rockin’ Thunder to the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, and it is a running guide to cannabis events across Canada, from industry expos and budtender nights to 420 celebrations. We keep it current through the year and update as event organizers release information on tickets, dates, and contests.

Plantlife at Alberta’s Biggest Events

When Alberta changed its rules in February 2024 to let licensed retailers sell cannabis at live events, Plantlife was first in line. That July we opened The Garden by Plantlife at the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival in Edmonton, a staffed retail space in the festival’s 18+ area selling pre-rolls, edibles, and beverages, with a consumption zone next door, run much like the beer gardens festival-goers already knew. In 2025 we ran a retail space at Rockin’ Thunder in Edmonton, the first time cannabis had been sold at an all-ages festival anywhere in Canada, and returned to the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival for a second year. 2026 has been our fullest season yet, running from May through October across Edmonton, Camrose, and St. Albert. We see festival retail as a natural step for where cannabis is headed here, a regulated product that can sit responsibly in the same spaces as a beer tent or a food truck.

How it works

Plantlife sets up at two kinds of events: age-restricted ones, and all-ages ones. Either way the setup is the same. Our retail space sits inside a separate, ID-checked 18+ zone under full AGLC oversight, the same framework that governs our stores across Alberta. Sales and consumption stay inside that zone, staffed by budtenders who answer questions and keep it compliant.

If you have been to a beer garden at a family festival, you already know the shape of it. Alberta’s legal cannabis age is 18, so the door is 18+ even where the event is not.

This is not just a win for Plantlife and our guests. It is a sign of what Alberta innovation can do as this province continues to blaze new trails in Canadian cannabis.

The 2026 Plantlife Event Season

A full season across Alberta, from a comedy festival in Edmonton to a four-day country music weekend in Camrose. Here is where we set up in 2026. Several of these run at Fan Park @ ICE District, 10128 104 Avenue NW in downtown Edmonton, a short walk from our ICE District store.
