Plantlife Cannabis (“Plantlife,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy while delivering the kind of trusted, friendly cannabis experience Albertans expect from their neighbourhood shop. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
This policy applies to all Plantlife retail locations in Alberta, our website, our delivery services, our loyalty program, and any online or in-store interactions you have with us. We follow the requirements of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), the Cannabis Act (Canada), and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Where we collect information because the law requires it, we will explain that clearly. Where it’s optional, we’ll make consent simple and transparent.
1. Information We Collect
We collect personal information to meet regulatory requirements, fulfill your orders, run our business, and provide a smooth, safe guest experience. We collect only what we need—nothing more.
A. Cannabis-Specific Information (Required by Law)
Age Verification (18+)
Because we are a licensed cannabis retailer, confirming your age is mandatory. Plantlife uses visual inspection only—our budtenders check your government-issued photo ID without scanning, swiping, or photographing it.
We collect:
- A timestamp confirming your age was verified
- A note indicating the ID was visually inspected
- Your purchase eligibility (e.g., “age confirmed 18+”)
We do not collect or store:
- ID numbers
- ID images
- ID expiry dates
- Barcodes
- Copies or scans
We retain only the minimum information required by AGLC for compliance auditing.
Purchase History
We record products purchased, quantities, timestamps, and store or delivery details. This is required for legal possession-limit monitoring. Purchase history is kept indefinitely unless you request deletion.
Delivery Information
If you choose delivery, we collect your delivery address, delivery notes, confirmation that age was verified at the door, and a delivery timestamp. Delivery requires a second age verification, again by visual inspection only.
B. Standard E-Commerce & Account Information
Account Creation
When you create an account or join our loyalty program, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, encrypted password, birthday, and communication preferences.
Order & Payment Details
We do not store or retain payment card numbers. Payments are handled securely by third-party processors such as Stripe or Moneris. We do store non-financial order information, including receipts and online checkout details.
Marketing Preferences
With your explicit consent, we collect information to support:
- Email marketing (double opt-in)
- SMS marketing (separate CASL-compliant opt-in)
- Loyalty updates
- Product recommendations
- Birthday rewards
Website Analytics
Our website analytics tools collect standard technical information such as device type, browser version, IP address, time on page, and navigation behaviour. Whenever possible, analytics data is anonymized and not used to identify you personally.
2. How We Use Information
We use your information responsibly, transparently, and in ways that comply with Alberta’s cannabis laws.
A. Compliance Uses (Mandatory)
Age Verification
To confirm you are 18+ before allowing entry, purchase, or delivery.
Purchase Limit Monitoring
To comply with legal possession-limit rules.
Regulatory Reporting to AGLC
To provide records when legally required for audits, inspections, or investigations.
Fraud and Security
To detect and prevent illegal activity, including fraudulent transactions or unlawful resale.
B. Business Uses (Optional and Consent-Based)
Order Fulfillment & Customer Service
To process your online orders, manage delivery, and respond to guest support questions.
Loyalty & Marketing (Only with Consent)
If you opt in, we may use your information to send promotions, SMS updates, personalized product suggestions, educational content, or birthday rewards. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Product & Experience Improvements
Anonymized data helps us understand your preferences, improve store operations, and refine our product selection.
3. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We share personal information only when necessary for regulatory compliance, service delivery, or with your consent. We do not sell your personal information.
A. Required Sharing
- AGLC and government regulators when legally required
- Law enforcement when presented with a valid legal request
- Delivery partners for the purpose of delivering your order and verifying age
B. Optional & Operational Sharing
We work with trusted service providers who assist in running our retail operations and digital experience:
- Alpine IQ for loyalty program services
- Drip for email and SMS communications (with your consent)
- Greenline for POS transaction processing
Each partner maintains its own privacy and security practices. We require all partners to comply with PIPA and restrict the use of personal information to specific Plantlife services.
4. Data Security & Storage
We use a combination of technical and administrative safeguards to protect your personal information. These include:
- Industry-standard encryption
- Encrypted data in transit and at rest
- Encrypted passwords
- Role-based access controls so only authorized staff can access sensitive data
- Mandatory staff training in privacy and compliance
We continuously improve our privacy and security practices while avoiding claims we cannot verify.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain information only as long as necessary for legal, operational, and guest-service purposes.

- Age verification timestamps: kept for the minimum period required by AGLC
- Delivery logs: retained for regulatory compliance
- Purchase history: retained indefinitely unless you request deletion

Your Deletion Rights
You may request deletion of your account, purchase history, loyalty data, or marketing preferences. Certain compliance-required records cannot be deleted immediately if the law requires us to retain them.

7. Transparency and Trust
Plantlife is Alberta’s neighbourhood cannabis shop. We believe transparency builds trust, and trust builds better guest experiences. We commit to minimal data collection, clear explanations of what’s required by law, responsible optional data collection, strong security practices, and respectful communication.
We review this policy at least once every quarter and update it as regulations or operations evolve.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when regulations change or when we introduce new features or services. When we do, the “Last Updated” date at the top will change. Significant changes may be announced via website notice or email.
Continued use of our services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
